Easing tension in Hebron

Arab Clan Chiefs Meet with Hebron's Jews -Efrat Weiss

Heads of local Palestinian clans in Hebron met with representatives from Israeli settlements in the area and discussed the easing of tensions between the two sides.

The Israelis said Sheikh Abu Khader Jabri told them that "I do not regard you as settlers but as residents. This city is yours just as much as it is ours."

[S]hortly after the meeting began, the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades issued a proclamation throughout the city that called for dealing with the meeting's participants "with an iron fist."

Sometimes you would like to believe that the Palestinian people, at least some, and even local leaders, are more reasonable than it seems their elected officials are, but who can say for sure yet?

Indeed.

That the [Fatah] al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades threatened the clan family members should be instructive for anyone wondering what happens to Palestinian moderates.

Sheikh Jabri should be commended, not threatened. Abbas will remain silent, of course, revealing his true stripes.

Abbas will remain silent but I cannot tell what his true stripes are. Are they the subtle hued back stripes of a jackal? Or the thick yellow belly stripe of someone who wanted to be a leader of the Palestinian people, but is too afraid of dealing with Hamas as well as extremists in his own party?

Ah, i'd say jackal, or wolf in sheep's clothing...but such an inquiry is academic. The fortunes of Fatah are fading fast; Hamas is rising just as quickly.

This rising brings with it the inevitable military conflict that is hair's breath away...or more accurately, a rocket away...it shook Israel this week when two young brothers were injured by Kassams...a few lost limbs...if they were dead brothers the IDF would be in Gaza by now.

Sad that Israel feels it has to wait for more dead to stand and fight.
