New UN Head: refreshing

UN Secretary-General Condemns Suicide Bombing in Israel

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemns in the strongest possible terms today's suicide bombing at a bakery in Eilat, Israel, which killed three people and wounded another.

Such acts of terrorism are a violation of international humanitarian law and can never be justified. The Secretary-General is also alarmed at announcements that further attacks against Israeli civilians are being planned.

He calls for swift action by Palestinian security forces to bring to justice those responsible and prevent further attacks.

Tougher rhetoric than Annan, but unfortunately, no more authority or means to back it up. There needs to be a realignment of the world community and the purpose and options of the UN in this era of terrorism and rising nuclear threats. Hopefully it will come, and also, hopefully, it won't take a major nuclear terrorist act to make it so.

I liked that he called the Palestinian Authority to the mat, saying clearly that it was THEIR responsibility to bring the planners to justice...no one (save Israel) says that anymore.
