Shameful lack of bipartisan consensus

Making Sense of Ahmadinejad - Amir Taheri

If Democrats win control of one or both chambers of Congress, Bush would face a political elite and public hostile to any new confrontation in the Middle East. The failure of Americans to develop bipartisan positions on issues of vital national interest plays into the hands of adventurers like Ahmadinejad.

Unfortunately, getting to write for a newspaper doesn't mean you know what you are writing about. I believe that any administration and congress, faced with 9/11, would have gone after the Taliban in Afghanistan. It is true, that a President Gore would most likely have sent many more troops into Afghanistan, having no predisposition to engage anyone else at that time, and we would have finished the job there. It is also very probable that we would not have invaded Iraq, and therefore would present a much stronger position now to Iran and North Korea. Historically, democrats are as good as anyone else in getting us involved in conflict. But the rhetoric today would make you think they just might handle it a bit more discriminatingly. This would be a bad thing?
